Fashion is Fast!

image

What is it all about? Artist Dora Budor on her work for 13 festival

image

(c) Joshua Citarella

As a commissioned artist, art director and photographer, Croatian-born Dora Budor realized this year´s campaign for festival for fashion & photography. Here is what she told us about it:

Dora, could you please briefly explain the concept behind the campaign for 13 festival for fashion & photography?

The idea behind the campaign is to address the ideas of transparency and advancement of technology - using tech gadgets that doesn’t exist yet or are still in stage of ideas - glass devices with moving circuits, wavy or human sized screens. Product placement, economy of image postproduction and aesthetics of electronics advertisements were used as tropes present in contemporary image production - technical images that serve as models for actions, and as reflection of possible future scenarios.

What part did the clothes by Anna-Sophie Berger play?

The collection ‘Fashion is Fast’ conceptually corresponds to ideas proposed in the shoot, therefore I used them as uniforms for the models. I was interested in their uniformity and process of moodboarding inspiration from official outfits of female political figures, as well as combination of perfection in form and low-quality images used as prints. The internet has always conjured utopian fantasies of interconnectedness-a perfected way for minds to come together freed of the baggage of the physical body.

Circulation, popularity and fast-spreading quality of the ‘Poor Image’ on internet enables the ideas to spread faster than ever, and not only reach most secluded parts of the world, but also act as an immediate starting point for the conversation.

What exactly is it that interests you about fashion?

I am not specifically interested in fashion, as much as I am interested in situations where clothes are used to represent power, ideas and status. The sociological and psychological effects of representing oneself through clothes is extremely powerful, and as a non-verbal communicator transfer ideas very directly.

How do technology and fashion correlate?

Technology and fashion are blending together, using each other to package their products better: technological innovations are used to make clothes interactive, warmer, responding to environment changes, while technology is using fashion to make its products more appealing and speak the language of their target audiences.

What do you want people to come to their minds when they see the campaign?

To have a feeling that they have seen these images before, but never in this constellation.

So, we hope you share this feeling and enjoy her images as much as we do!
